Korean Poem " While Waiting for You"

While Waiting for You <By Hwang Ji-u>

At the spot where you promised to come,

as I wait for you, having arrived early,

every approaching footstep makes my heart pound.

Even the rustle of a single leaf feels like it is coming toward me.

Those who have waited know:

is there anything in the world that wrings the heart quite like waiting?

At this spot where you were to come—where I am waiting now—

everyone who opens the door and enters seems to be you,

then you, then someone who might be you...

before the door closes again.

My beloved,

waiting for you, who do not come.
